I stared at my room door from the kitchen, frozen in fear. I listened for any noises, footsteps, and heard nothing. The morning sun began to creep in from the windows throughout the house. This was it; I was going to die.

“…Mr. Allen?” I hesitated with my question.

“Yes?” he replied with a chilling nonchalance.

“Why...Why do you want to kill me?” I tried to breathe normally to seem unafraid. I tried not to tremble as I looked throughout the apartment making sure I could see any entry points.

“That is all too much to explain over the phone, don’t you think Ms. Archer?” He waited for my response in which I offered silence. “Besides I have some one you may want to speak with…say hi.”

He sounded like he was lifting someone up to the phone. I heard heavy breathing from the other end. I was trying to make out the voice and I couldn’t think of anything. He yelled at the person with frustration and I heard the person scream in pain.

“Hello?!?!” I didn’t feel myself scream the words; my body was too numb.

“Lila…” Danella’s voice ached back to me. My heart broke.

“Danella, Danella oh my God, where are you? Don’t hurt her.” I was yelling now. I was charged off of my anger and my fear. I knew that someone I loved was going to get involved, but I wasn’t going to let anything happen to my best friend.

Danella was still crying in the background when Mr. Allen picked it up.

“Oh darling, I’m not trying to hurt her. I have no intentions in wanting to hurt her, believe me. I don’t want to hurt you either. I just want you. Here with me. Like how it used to be. Like in high school. “

“Listen, I don’t know what you are talking about, you sick ass man,” I grabbed my sneakers and keys and headed for the door. “, but I will not let you hurt my friend. I’m calling the co-"

A gun shot went off on his end. Danella’s screams stopped. I stopped. No, he didn’t

The tears streamed down my face. I sunk to the ground, trembling. This is my fault, she’s dead this is my fault. Danella’s cries for help interrupted my thoughts.

“Lila get help, get help now please!”

She was alive.

Mr. Allen replaced her cries in my ear. “You see Lila, I think getting the cops involved isn’t going to benefit anyone. Because no matter what, I will have you. Even if I kill her, or anyone you get involved, you still won’t get rid of me. I know where you are. I always have.”

I looked around me. There is no way out of this.

“There is no way out of this.” He said, invading my thoughts. “In front of you, there is a brick red Impala. I remember you saying that was your dream car back then.”

Sure enough, a brand-new Impala was in front of my apartment complex.

“The key is in, your mailbox. What your going to do Lila is, at nine tonight, you are going to drive that car to the destination in the GPS. You are going to do that alone. If I find that you aren’t alone, I will kill your friend and you. I want you and you alone. Is that clear?”

I had to make that choice. I had to make it now.

“Yes.” My face was stone, I could hear him grinning through the phone.

“Good, oh and Lila,” he paused waiting for me to respond.

“What.”

“Don’t be late. I’m not going to bail you out this time.”

The impala’s navigation led the way. I twisted down dirt roads and cobblestone pathways. I watched the sunny sky turn into a nighttime horror show. I tried to ignore my fate. I knew exactly where I was being led to. I knew it all to well. I knew my karma was coming back to me, and I knew this was my fault. I ignored all the signs. The girls he killed before me was no uncanny resemblance. I knew this was going to happen to me. It was my turn.

Accept it, it’s your turn now. I pulled into Meadows Prep High School, my new personal hell. It’s my turn now.
